Animaniacs: Lights, Camera, Action! for the DS Mini-review

The fist thing you'll notice about this game is that it's GBA port with no extra features, although it does use the touch screen... to move through menus that is, you'll never need it though...

The plot is pretty silly, since the Animaniacs have caused Warner Bros. so much losses and damages to them, they must make three movies to make up for the loses, but...

Since when do they obey anybody? And why are Pinky and the Brain helping? They don't even live in the studios!

You'll meet Slappy the squirrel who is actually nice instead or onrery! And Prof. Scratchnsniff doesn't even "speak" with a German accent, they got Brain right at least...

The game is simple, you must run around in an isometric world, pulling levers, throwing fruits at enemies and picking stuff up...

Sounds "exciting", right? It gets better!

Each characters has special abilities: Wakko burps, Yakko throws the farthest, Dot can hover with her skirt but doesn't want to push boxes around (it's boys work!), Pinky can fit in small holes and runs fast, while Brain can't jump because his head is too big, he can err... pull levers... I know ALL can pull levers, but the game has "hi-tech" levers that only Brain can undestand how to use....

How do you switch characters? You must find a door and play a mini game! A polka dancing mini game!

....

Yes, you have to play a mini game each time you want to switch characters... You don't have to win to change characters, but it's quite annoying...

You win film in this mini games, it's sort of a timer AND a live counter. It goes does with time as they roll the cameras and they have to use a new film each time you "die".

The difficulty only affects the film consumption rate as far as I know, on easy you can never lose since the director gives you more films when you run out of it and on hard you run out of film VERY fast! Not to mention it's impossible..

You can also find film on the sets, but you don't really need to pick them up, as a matter of fact you don't need to pick nearly ANYTHING up!

You heard me! You do need to pick up "ammo" and keys, but the rest is a mere decoration!

You can pick up junk food to increase the movie rating, why this happens is a mystery, but half the game doesn't make much sense anyway. The movie rating is meaningless since the password only tell the level you are on and the ending doesn't change at all if you get a better rating...

Did I say PASSWORDS? Gasp! It must be a mistake! Nobody would use password nowadays, right? WRONG! As hard as it is to believe, they DO use passwords!

The game has three worlds/films, sci-fi, horro and adventure (which is actually a pirate world), and you actually play a stage of EACH world at a time! It may seem novel an interesting at first but in the end it means one thing... Three final stages with their final bosses in a row!

The humor that should be in the game is non-existant, and the graphics are well, like a GBA game, it is a direct GBA-DS game port after all...

It's very mediocre and not that fun to play, and there is one thing that makes it just horrid...

It's full of glitches!

The game freezes in a certain level when you approach a teleporter that was meant for another character, and in the next level for no apparent reason!

This is just unacceptable! But I think I have an "explanation", while it doesn't excuse the awfulness of the game though...

The game was developed by Warthog games, which was absorbed/ bought by Gizmondo and now makes games for the Gizmondo...

Seeing how shoddy the game is, one can only guess that they rushed the game, either to fulfill the contract or under Gizmondo's pressure, or both...

You can feel the game is practically unfinished...

The password systems means the didn't have time (or didn't care) to implement a normal save system, the movie rating part is a mere decoration, but it might have been part of a bigger scheme that never saw the light and they is also the "audience" feature, there are two people watching "the film" in the corner and ocassionaly cheer at random, the can of laughter supposedly make the movie funnier, I'm guessing these two are conected but their real purpose was left out of the game...

Of couse the fact that this is a direct port of a GBA game mean they but nearly no effort in it...

As a collecter this pains me, but I must try to get a refund..

I've bought bad games in the past, but this one is not only bad, it's retched! And buggy! And worst of all! FULL-PRICED! I didn't pay 40€ for a game that crashed and is simply horrid, if it had cost 5€ I'd hate it but at least keep it...

So... DO NOT buy this game! Or the GBA version! Just don't do it!

Luckily I still have the reciept...
