SWEEEET!

Today I got a package in the mail from Starline X. Hodge, the author of Candi, one of my favorite webcomics!

It has a Candi doodle on the envelope! Which is awesome!

But of course, the best was inside! It had the FCBD comic and a Candi sticker and... Wait for it!

TWO PRINTS!

I did tell her that I was interested in getting one, and asked if there was any avaiaible, but she said she wasn't going to sell the older ones and she wasn't making new ones either...

I'll have to repay her somehow...

Anyways.... YAY! WIIGII And YAHOO even!

Game Journal May 23: Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of The Earth

It's been two weeks without a mini game review, but it's been too VERY busy weeks!

Call of Cthulhu:DCoTE is based on the tabletop RPG based on H.P. Lovecraft's work, mainly on Escape from Innsmouth...

The game is mostly a FPS with some adventure and sthealth  parts in it, it reminded me of the King Kong game, specially since they are both very cinematic and have no HUD display (you can see your health or ammo on the main screen)....

The looks is mostly creepy, like a horror themed should be, and it also have a slight old horror movie look, it's sometimes even grainy, on purpose of course...

But the horror ends here, when you install the game and read the manual, it practically telling you that you'll need to change your pants mid-game, but alas, the fright never came...

I played in the dark, and even had some caffeine to keep me slightly nervous, but I was more jumpy from the noises coming from outside than the game...

The game is not a pure shooter, you spend most of the game defenseless, and you must use stealth to continue and once you do have a weapons you can choose to either use strategy or simply go in their and shoot everything...

The most notable thing the game has is the health system, for starters the lower your health is, the more the colors fade from the world. And how you heal is new too! Instead of using a medikit on your whole body, you use not only the medikits on parts of your body, you use different items from the medikit depending on the wound!

Slight cut? A bandage will do! Broken bones? You'll need a splint! Not to mention that you'll limp if you break a leg. If you have a severe cut you'll need to stitch it and you have an antidote for poison...

The game has a sanity system, which means that if see something disturbing and messed up, you'll slowly lose your sanity. During the game you'll hear voices, and even see things, but those are sequences that you get no matter what.

But you do start to talk to yourself when you slightly insane, and for a moment I though that's all that could happen until...

Well, you know what Lovecraftian horrors do to your mind, right? Since you actually battle a few of these beasts, you might actually go berserk in the middle of the battle, and you might even commit suicide! You have morphine to help with your sanity problem, but a morphine shot in the middle of a battle might not be a good idea...

Notice how I said a few of these beasts, that because like I said, the horror starts too late, and none of the stuff you see is new, the sanity system has been done in Eternal Darkness, and the visions have appeared in games like F.E.A.R. and Doom 3, which actually do it better...

Don't think that this is a bad game, it's just a horror game that isn't that scary...

But the cinematic and adventure-y feel is good, you have lots of puzzles, and you learn about the Lovecraftian Mythos, the game may have not scared me at all, but it's gotten me very interested in the work of Lovecraft...

If anyone could suggest which book to start with, I'll get my hands on it as soon as I finish Narnia...

Today felt like a Help Desk strip...

Today I had most of the day free... To do chores and run errands that is...

I sent the Candi prints to the framer, the lady working there already knows me well... :P

And I hung the Sam & Max print. And I do believe that I might have room for more prints than I thought I would in first place!

Anyways, what I had to deal with this afternoon....

I got a call from our internet provider, we want to get internet in my room, and they said they I had to contact their tech support.... One week after we contacted them!

Tech support told me (after nearly half an hour), that I had to contact the commercial center, who asked the exact same questions that tech support did, and after a long wait...

They sent me to the technicians, I got another long wait, another round of answering the same questions....

THEY SENT ME BACK TO TECH SUPPORT! ARGH!

I wasted my whole afternoon this way!
