He does have a point....

John Allison of Scary-Go-Round
has made a post
about the Todd Goldman incident, and... he does have a point...
Many of the people who are supporting Dave are being slightly hypocritical, because they are selling Star Wars, World of Warcraft of similiar merch, without the original authors consent....
Re: The coffee is kicking in...
Dinosaur Comics is great!
But I don't really like Twisted Kaiju Theatre, it's not that I don't like "offensive" comics, but to me it's just swearing Godzilla toys, and nothing else...

It could be related to the fanfiction philosophy of "steal from your betters, not your equals."
. . . but that also doesn't quite scan, because . . . holy crap
, have you seen the fanfic writers up in arms because someone's decided they're going to try to sell something? ("Going to ruin it for the rest of us," etc.) Maybe there's something more fitting in fan art, where people seem to be able to sell things for whatever-the-fuck reason . . . I don't really get it. But I've never really been a part of that "community", despite drawing more than I write.
. . . yeah. I guess I just don't get it.

Oh, I'm well familiar with that story! I just didn't think that was relevant to the story at hand. ^_^ There are lots of ways that a writer can "ruin it for the rest of us," and unfortunately, that one's already been done.
(To be honest, the reaction I've seen most from that one is authors refusing to read fanfiction; the fanfic bans tend to have different reasons behind them, from what I've seen.)
True, they know and we know they didn't invent, but they are still profiting from it...
I haven't done Choo Choo Bear yet, but I plan to!
His point, at least from what I read, is that even though the rest haven't stolen from othera, they are still profiting from them in some way or another...
