Game Journal July 29: Another World

It's been ages since I played a game or even more since I reviewed one!

Another World (A.k.a. Out of this World) is old Delphine Software game for PC, Geneis, Snes, Amiga and 3DO.

The graphics of this game were quite impressive back then, it was one of the first games were the characters and levels were 3D... ish... The game itself was 2D...

The game's plot is the kind of plot that was original back then, but done to death and silly nowadays. A scientist does a particle accelerator experiment that goes wrong and sends him to "Another World", where he must survive and escape!

I'd like to say that this is one of the first action / adventure games that truly was, sure you had to fight and shoot a lot, but you had to think every step you made, you can shoot down doors, but it's not always a good idea. You can also shoot pillar and other things that will affect the rest of the level. So... Yes, you shoot a lot, but you had to think very hard WHAT to shoot!

The game is quite challenging, but you get unlimited tries! The game uses password for each area you reach, and one of the most frustrating parts of the game is getting killed right at the end of the area, forcing to start over again from the last one. This isn't so bad since the areas are short, but some are quite challenging, mostly when you have to fight against several evil aliens that attack you from both sides...

Your handy laser gun does more than shoot, it can create a barrier that fades aways after times or a few shoots or you can make a power shot that can destroy almost anything. Which makes laser fights very strategic, specially since your laser can run out of juice!

You won't be alone, a good alien is trying to escape with you and will help you when ever it can! But sometimes you have to help him!

Length-wise? It's about just right for a game of this sort. You'll beat it in an afternoon, but you'll enjoy it! I know I did!
